The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality and Widam Food Company, announced the joint national initiative to promote local produce and support the prices of sacrificial lamb for the blessed Eid al-Adha 1445 H. The initiative will begin from Sunday, June 9 and ends Wednesday, June 19, 2024. This initiative aims to regulate the market during the blessed Eid al-Adha period, to achieve price stability, create a balance between supply and demand and stabilize the local market during certain seasons where demand exceeds supply. It also aims to reduce unjustified increases in sacrificial lamb prices during this period and deliver essential goods at an acceptable price for consumers. The ministry clarified that an agreement has been reached with Widam Food Company to provide local and imported sheep for sale at discounted prices to citizens (with an allocation of one sheep per person), on the condition that the buyer is 18 years and over and produces their original identification card to complete the sale. Venues offering this service are the Widam managed abattoirs in Al Shamal, Al Khor, Umm Salal, Al Wakrah, Al Shahaniya and Abu Nakhla. The ministry confirmed that the initiative will set the price for both local and imported sheep (weighing 40 Kgs or more) at QAR1,000. Widam Food Company are also responsible for providing suitable pens and will commit to providing compliant only sheep with the specifications and conditions of legitimate sacrificial sheep, at the agreed upon weights and sizes. The ministry further added that the fee for slaughtering, cutting, packing, and loading is QAR 50 through the purchase of a separate coupon, which includes QAR 34 for loading and QAR 16 for slaughtering, cutting and packing. It clarified that consumers could use this coupon at any time from the beginning of the initiative until the end of this year, in case the service is not required immediately.  The ministry emphasized its continued efforts to intensify inspection activities to ensure compliance with supported prices and safety procedures for selling sacrificial lamb. It also urges all consumers to report any violations or discrepancies and welcomes feedback, complaints and suggestions through its official communication channels:
